A Drawing Machine

A Device that Interrogates the Student as a Value Of Production

Fall 2021 | The Arm

Instructor: Constance Vale

Individual Work

01

This parure object “jewelry” investigates the body of an architecture student... here, objects of aesthetic become tools, a manifestation of the quantifying and monetized nature of the field’s impositions. Valued for what the student makes, these pieces reflect a society which reduces the wearer’s identity to a mere means of production.

These technologies transform and dislocate the student into a drawing machine. An assemblage of fragments affixes themselves to the body as though to constrict and detach the delicacy of the organism into an engineered commodity.
